Hello From AOBAYAMA | School of Engineering, Tohoku University

Engineering Education Innovation

● A 6-year (4-year undergraduate +2-year master course) engineering education program

Due to the fact that over 90% of engineering students here enter Master Degree course after the undergraduate study, a six-year (four-year undergraduate plus two-master course) consecutive engineering education program is initiated to enhance professional engineering education based on the Students’ Study Evaluation Standard, which is the first such standard established in the national universities in Japan. The program is complemented through a newly set up “Institute for Engineering Education”. One feature of the program is introducing the PDCA (plan, do, check, action) cycle, which is widely adopted in the education systems of the world leading research universities, into this program. The aim of this new study system is to strengthen the training of the talented researchers who can potentially play an active role at the frontier of research in the world, as well as top technical personnel who can take leading role in advanced industry in the future.
